Make Ocean City Your Playground

On the water...

The ocean and the bay are home to thousands of creatures, some hiding in the depths, others easier to spot in the marshes and shallow waters.

For sport, there is bottom fishing just outside the inlet, crabbing, surf fishing or deep sea charter trips miles offshore in the Canyons to hunt for tuna, marlin, sailfish, blues and shark.

You can take a nature cruise to watch for dolphins and whales. Sail to Assateague Island, past Porpoise Island and Double Pond to look for the wild ponies. Dredge for clams, explore the marshes of the Isle of Wight Wildlife Refuge to watch for the birds who call the region home. Or sail into the Atlantic to see Ocean City from a new perspective as the sun sets behind the skyline.

If sitting on a boat seems too tranquil, too far removed from the actual water, try getting a little closer. Set out on a speedboat cruise, flying across the ocean at intoxicating speeds and feel the spray on your face. Rent a jet ski and ride the waves. Wind surf. Or slow down a bit and let the water share its calm as you glide a canoe or kayak through the sheltered waters of the bay. By yourself or with a guide, you can see a whole different aspect of Ocean City.

On the beach...

Ten miles of white sand beach. Seagulls and sandpipers calling you to the water's edge. The irresistible combination of fresh air, surf and sand.

Any time of year you can almost own the beach in the early morning or evening. Miles and miles of solitude, with only nature for company. The waves roll in and out, endlessly fascinating to watch. And as the tides go out, little treasures are left behind...the perfect shell, the smoothly tumbled pebble.

From your balcony or perched on the sand, watch the sun rise before you take on the day, or catch a sparkle of moonlight before you turn in for the night. As the day heats up, so does the pace of the beach. Sunbathing, swimming, surfing...umbrellas stretch for miles as everyone enjoys the sun, and frolics on the sand.

In the air...

If you'd like to leave the hustle and bustle behind you for a little while, you can take to the skies. Take a sky tour over the beaches or a flying eco-tour along Assateague Island. Parasail over the Atlantic or the Bay, or hitch a ride in an old biplane and experience the early days of aviation in an open cockpit, with the wind in your face.

On the Boards...

If you walked the Boardwalk from beginning to end, your three-mile journey would take you from past to present.

Starting at the Inlet, the Life Saving Station Museum is one of the oldest buildings in town. Here you can gain an appreciation for the days when men fought the sea...to earn a living, to protect the island, to save lives. Intriguing exhibits feature shipwrecks, aquariums and a photographic history of the resort.

The amusement parks, with hundreds of rides and amusements, have been thrilling visitors since before the turn of the century. You can climb onto one of the hand-carved wooden animals on the restored antique carousel or ride the hair-raising loop roller coaster. You can spend an hour...or a day!

As you walk north, you'll come to the pier. For every seaside resort, this was a main attraction, its varied forms of entertainment drawing visitors like a magnet. First built in 1907, and again in 1929, you'll find the carnival feel of days gone by with its ferris wheel, rides and games of chance.

This area of the Boardwalk is home to some of the most famous food at the beach. Don't miss a tub of Boardwalk french fries, caramel corn, salt water taffy, chocolate fudge or a soft ice cream cone.

Your journey continues north, with the beach on your right and the unique mix of Boardwalk shops on your left. Food, souvenirs, clothes, amusements - the heart and soul of Ocean City stretches in front of you.

On the town...

This is a place where people come to have fun. From one end of the island to the other, you can play, shop, exercise, dine, snack, be entertained...we dare you to do it all!

You can play a game of miniature golf, drive a go-kart or play a virtual reality laser game. You can work out at a fitness center, bicycle, jog or roller blade. Bowl, play tennis, relax in a sauna, or while away an afternoon in a hot tub. Watch a championship tennis match, check out a softball game or cheer for your favorite at the harness races. You can visit the many galleries and shops presenting the work of local artists and craftspeople. And of course, you can shop.

There's clothing and jewelry, from the basic beach wear to the latest trends. Try on island fashions, western wear, designer clothes or the hippest t-shirt. Hunt for treasured antiques and crafts in area flea markets and shops. Up and down the highway or just across the bridge...charming shops on the water or mega outlet stores and malls.

When it comes to food, you will definitely be in the right place to satisfy your hunger. The list of restaurants is almost endless, serving every type of cuisine, in settings from outdoor cafes to elegant dining rooms.

Before you call it a day, don't forget the evening's entertainment. Nightclubs offer every type of music, from rock to oldies. There are plays and performances, dinner theater and concerts. Big bands, mellow piano tunes, places to dance, places to listen.

A few steps away...

Just a short distance across the bridge in West Ocean City you can shop the outlet mall, play miniature golf, race go-karts and walk the piers as you shop along the water. You can take a step back in time at a circa 1860 western town amusement/theme park... or browse a collection of antique autos. And as you go north or south along the coast, discover quiet beaches and state parks.

On the greens...

Some of the most scenic and challenging golf courses in the Mid-Atlantic region can be found within a very short drive of Ocean City, so be sure to pack your clubs when you vacation in our resort.

Golfers of every skill level will find the selection of area courses fit to a tee. Lush fairways roll through pristine marshes, wetlands and magnificent pines. The natural beauty of the coastal area is a perfect match for the game. Wildlife abounds and water comes into play on may holes. There are courses with bent-grass greens and courses offering Bermuda greens. Ocean City's municipal golf course, Eagle's Landing, was recently rated one of the top 10 courses in Maryland by Golf Digest. To insure our golfers the experience of the best greens possible, most area golf courses are no longer permitting the use of metal spikes.

The Ocean City area contains both public and semi-private courses, driving ranges and lesson plans, junior golf programs and clinics for all ages. An abundance of golf packages are available throughout the year. With the area's mild temperatures, you'll find almost any day of the year is just right to play a round. Choose from weekend to mid-week packages and a variety of accommodations.

Get into the sing of things. Tee up in Ocean City, Maryland.
